Chalgrove Primary School

The impact of PE funding 2018 – 2019

Physical Education is an integral part of Chalgrove Primary School. We are very proud of our sporting achievements and we aim to create a safe, fun and competitive environment for all our children.

Physical Education lessons, taught by a PE Specialist, involve a wide variety of competitive, team and individual sports. We also teach dance, gymnastics, outdoor and adventurous activities and swimming to our children.

We have had great success in PE and sport this year.

In September we were awarded the Sainsbury’s School Games Platinum award and also the Barnet Partnership for School Sport (BPSS) KS1 Platinum Award for the second time. Alongside this, we were awarded the participation award for taking part in the most level 2 events in South Barnet.

This year has been a fantastic success for the school and our PE specialist, who won the BPSS Outstanding Contribution to School Sport Award.

As a school, we have taken part in the Barnet Dance Festival and Cycle Confident training. This has been offered to all children from year’s 3 to 6.

The PE specialist worked alongside our Travel Champion to encourage the use of bikes and scooters and we have been awarded The STARS gold award and the SUSTRANS School Champion award 2018, for our exceptional contribution to SUSTRANS and the community.

We have also used funding to provide bicycles and balance bikes for our children to use during PE lessons and at lunchtime.

We are part of the Barnet Partnership for School Sport which provides sporting opportunities for schools in Barnet and we aim to be involved in all level 2 sport events and to involve all our children throughout the school year.

We also have a broad range of breakfast and after school clubs available for our children to take part in. The school offers KS1 and KS2 football, cycling, drama, Lego, dance, multi-sports, table tennis, chess and karate. Over the past year, 90 school children have taken part in a club.

This year we are promoting health and wellbeing and providing opportunities for our children to understand how to be mindful and to reflect on their own actions.

We have also introduced a new Forest School initiative to our curriculum this year. KS2 have taken part in outdoor lessons where they have learnt how to create and adapt in a safe environment when outdoors. KS1 will be taking part in the same sessions in the Autumn term.

Our aim is create a more competitive and healthy school environment for our children. This will enhance our stature and make us a more competitive school when competing in the borough.
